Color Collage

Purpose:
To become familiar with color meaning and associations;
To use color knowledge so that students will make purposeful choices when using color
Answer:
I learned that just because it is white, does not mean it can’t have meaning and be interesting to look at.  White actually has many shades and each one represents something different, for example, pure, bright white often represents purity.  I also learned that white is a very hard color to do because it is often matched with other colors like black to create a contrast.  Therefor, when you cut it out of a magazine and put it on your collage, the little black that is there automatically attracts the eye.  Finally, I learned that it is important to plan out your collage before you paste and do the edges first.  At first I pasted my biggest images close to the edge but not all the way on the edge.  This proved to be challenging trying to cover up those edges.

Hanging Paper Collage

Purpose:
  • To understand the difference between 2d art work, relief sculpture, and 3d art work;
  • To create something flat into something not flat using the concepts of “positive & negative space”, along with “sculpture in the round”;
  • To understand and use the principles of art: Repetition and Unity in your sculpture;

  • To look at and discuss the 2d & 3d works of art by Mia Pearlman as a means of inspiration.

2d art work is 2 dimensional, which means it is flat. 3d art work is 3 dimensional, which means it pops out. This way you can look from many different angles and see different things whereas in 2d it is always the same no matter what angle you look at it. 3d has depth while 2d does not. I learned that 3d allows you to kind of make many different images that change depending on where you are standing. I think this adds an extra element of creativity over 2d art work. I also learned that 3d art can really take any shape.  It will never just be a rectangle, it has multiple levels to it.  I think this makes 3d art work more intricate on a certain level.

Hanging Paper Sculpture

"The Eye" 2-2-14 Mia Pearlman
I like this work of art because of the mystery.  It really makes me think about what is going on.  What is on the other side of the tunnel?  It reminds me of the rabbit hole in Alice in Wonderland where Alice falls deeper and deeper into the rabbit hole.  The blue light really adds an extra element of intrigue to me.  I wonder how big this hanging paper sculpture is.  I also wonder what it looks like zoomed out and how deep the blue light is.

Art Fundamentals Day 1

I like to play football and baseball.  I'm also on the track team.  I enjoy hanging with my friends (i.e. Noah Pellerin).  I also like going to sports events like hockey and basketball and cheering on Yarmouth.  Inside school I like to keep it real.  I like historical art like Renaissance and such.  I like to create cartoon like art that is funny.  My motivation to succeed is so I can grow up to be rich and famous.  The teacher can help by keeping a relaxed setting.  Also, I worked best in groups.
